Sinterklaas is a traditional Dutch holiday figure who arrives each year in November, bringing small gifts, songs, and celebrations. For many children, he is as magical as Santa Claus (though he is a completely different character with his own customs and stories).

Lotte is upset. Dad promised to take her to the Sinterklaas parade, but he still isn’t home from work.
