About Sanne

'Seen by the eye, felt with the heart: through a reader a story can change the world.'

As a fulltime illustrator en auteur I bring stories to life for children from 0-12 years. I also work as an illustrator for educational projects and merchandise.
Daarnaast werk ik als illustrator voor educatieve projecten, wenskaarten en merchandise. My illustrations can be described as energetic, versatile and accessible. My stories often include action, fantasy and a positive message. My area of expertise is narrative picture books.

As an illustrator I illustrated hundreds of publications for an international readership, including picture books, (animated) children bookseducational projects, children magazines (o.a. Bobo), diaries, greeting cards, iPad-apps, sites, puzzles en merchandise. Clients include Clavis, Delubas, Deltas, Zwijsen, CITO, het Haga Kinderziekenhuis, Puma, Hema, Xenos, Eneco, etcetera.

As an author I published 12 stories with text and illustrations. 'My friend the Witch's Cat' (2018), 'Princess Cupcake' (2018), ‘Is autumn forthcoming?’ (2016, Clavis) and ‘The Daddy Store’ (2015, Clavis) were translated in total 13 times and got 3 reprints en 2 softcover-versions. Mijn digital picture books 'Lola on the Moon' en 'Ice Cream Girl' are read more than 50.000 times. Clients include Clavis, The Haga Children Hospital, De Banier, Rootz Family and Lees Me Voor.

I have always been fascinated by stories. As a child I read everything I could get my hands on and started making up my own little stories in text and drawings. Throughout secondary school I made a comic strip or an illustrated novel every summer holiday. My short stories and poems were published in magazines and newspapers. I regularly won writing contests. I come from a creative family so am very lucky to always have been supported in my projects. My mother, for example, is a kindergarten teacher and a painter and a sculptor. It was self-evident that I should do something with my passions. In 2005 I graduated from the Art Academy St. Joost in Illustration. In 2008 I started my blog for which I regularly wrote articles about illustration, writing and my existence as a freelancer. In 2013 I graduated from Script+ in Amsterdam for 'Writing for children' where I was taught by writers including such as Mirjam Oldenhave. I'm a member of the Association of Writers and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
